Responsible for setting a good example for strict adherence to established Safety and Technical Training programs at GTC. This would include providing instructional services for ITS technical training classes related to the operations and restoration of the Integrated Transmission System in Georgia. Accountable for carrying out of safety and training assignments that support departmental and corporate objectives. This includes providing daily OSHA and regulatory compliance support, including coordinating testing of PPE items such as, but not limited to hot-sticks, high-voltage rubber gloves, temporary personal protective grounds, etc.), participation in RESAP and ECSAP compliance assessments/audits; completing field safety observations and participating in pre-construction meetings and pre-job safety briefings; identifying, developing and delivering safety related training; and supporting the development of specific policies, guidelines and procedures (PGP's). This position will also instruct safety compliance and Integrated Transmission System (ITS) training classes both at the Electric Cooperative Training Center and off-site locations, as necessary. This position may serve as an internal safety and technical training advisor and represent the Corporation's interest externally.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: B.S. Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Adult Education, or related field.
Experience: Six (6) years of experience as a safety and training professional with an electric utility, with at least three (3) years of experience in developing, implementing, or delivering safety and training programs.
Equivalent Experience: Associates Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Training, or a related field with at least 10 years of experience in safety and training at a voltage level up to 500kV with an electric utility. Background must include at least five (5) years of experience in developing, implementing, or delivering safety and training programs OR fifteen (15) years of experience field operations or safety and training at a voltage level up to 500kV within an electric power environment. Background must demonstrate proficiency in the construction, operations and maintenance of transmission, substation, overhead and underground facilities. Must have working knowledge and experience with OSHA, NESC, DOT and local regulations relating to an electric utility in addition to accident investigation and reporting activities. In addition, an understanding of the ITS and our EMC Members is strongly preferred.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Ability to qualified as an ITS Qualified Operator within six months of employment. Current Georgia Driver's license.
Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools, and equipment uses, etc.): Ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) and to establish and maintain positive working relationship with contractors, associates, vendors, and managers. Must be a motivated individual with strong organizational skills to document, track, and follow-up on health and safety issues. Ability to perform as a Trainer and use teaching aids and audiovisual equipment is a must.
