Job Overview
The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for construction safety and quality control (safety inspector) on Georgetown University (GU) construction projects in responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
Provide expertise and technical capability in the areas of safety program implementation, construction hazard identication and mitigation
Assist in the implementation of a contractor's Quality Control Program
Provide expertise, knowledge, and skills in construction job site safety
Visit and inspect University construction projects, evaluating and assessing for safety compliance with OSHA and University standards
Work with GU contractors to identify and mitigate safety deciencies at site
Act as a Quality Control Manager on certain projects, monitoring the contractors' QC plan and the plans implementation - including review of QC/ QA plans submitted by contractors, as well as jobsite inspections of materials, methods and testing by outside entities
Manage the Personal Protective Equipment Program for Planning and Facilities Management and work closely with contractors, project managers and the Environmental Health Safety Compliance Specialist to submit and comply with the District of Columbia's Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) stormwater management requirements
Work Interactions
Reporting directly to the Fire Marshal and Occupational Safety Manager, for assignments, work direction, and administrative supervision, the Construction Safety Specialist provides advisory services for safety plans and QC plans; advises and assists in the resolution of dicult safety construction conditions and issues; and works closely with project managers to determine deficiencies in the completed/ongoing work.
They work with the Fire Marshal and Occupational Safety manager to develop and implement programs to reduce accident trends; and develop and manage a worksite inspection program, including safety and performs occupational health and safety inspections of all construction projects on GU campuses - Main, Medical, Law and Downtown.
As QC/QA inspector, they evaluate contractors' QC plan and its implementation - and monitor contractors' administration of said plan.
They carry a smartphone and respond to inquiries as needed, including off-hours if emergencies arise
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Safety Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
1 to 3 years - preferably 5 years - of progressively responsible experience in an Occupational Safety position
Competency with office computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power
Preferred qualifications
OSHA construction 30-hour certification
CHST Construction Health and Safety Tech
Experience working with higher education institutions
Stated experience supporting a campus environment
