The Center for Immunization Research offers an exciting career opportunity for a Research Nurse to participate in the conduct of vaccine trials. The research nurse will provide nursing and research support for research studies and be responsible for planning and delivering the administrative and clinical component of flavivirus vaccine research studies in accordance with research protocols and projected timelines.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Study support and coordination.
Coordinate study activity in support of Adult Vaccine Studies.
May be required to coordinate single cohorts of larger trials.
Will be afforded an opportunity to experience all facets of conduct of early phase vaccine trials, including work within FDA regulations and ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
Assist study teams with the implementation of research project(s) in the following areas:
Research subject interactions per protocol including but not limited to recruitment, screening of medical history, subject education, conducting informed consent, clinical assessments, data collection and recording.
Attend training sessions for IRB updates, Human subjects' protection, HIPAA, DOT/IATA, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens and renewals as required by sponsor or university.
Communicate status of research activities to study team.
Assist in the development of SOPs and update as needed.
Obtain, process, transport, and receive lab specimens when needed, including maintenance of specimen tracking log.
Assist and support other staff when necessary.
Contribute to QA/QC process.
Travel to the inpatient unit on the Bayview campus will be required.
Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.
Will require foot travel within the JHMI campus, particularly between the clinic on Broadway Street and the laboratory on Wolfe Street.
Must be able to move about the campus and to Bayview Medical Center to the isolation unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline.
Fluency in Spanish.
Willing to become certified as a clinical research professional within two years of hire.
Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BCLS CPR certification required.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
