Job Summary This Senior Biosafety Program Coordinator will be responsible for:
Providing scientific and administrative oversight to the Institutional Biosafety Committee for the Hospital; including the day to day activities of the IBC. The IBC reviews, approves and monitors biosafety activity as mandated by local, state and federal laws and regulations
Working in collaboration with Research Administration to maintain IT IBC platform
Overseeing the Biological Safety Program within the Hospital and administering the Biosafety Level 3 facility, operations and budget
Leading or supporting a number of research compliance initiatives, primarily related to laboratory safety. Providing general research compliance support and oversight of laboratory research
Providing support for Research Repository Protection programs. Developing plans with laboratories for the protection of research repositories. Working with labs to develop disaster recovery procedures and strategies
Providing technical support to Chemical, Industrial Hygiene and Life Safety programs
Developing, writing, implementing and maintaining standard operating procedures for research laboratory operations. Researching, developing and implementing alternative practices for operational improvements
Inspecting and assessing research laboratories. Reporting findings to Research Operations and Principal Investigators
Researching periodicals, internet sites, and government publications to keep abreast of federal, state and local developments and compliance efforts related to research. Developing communication tools to share this information effectively across the community
Supporting the efforts of Research Lab Support, Animal Protocol Support and Assurance, Research Facilities, Animal Care and Use Committee, Research Operations Committee, The Lab Support Group and Radiation Safety
To qualify, you must have:
A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Occupational and Environmental Hygiene or a closely related field
5 years of experience analyzing and conducting risk assessments in biosafety and general safety issues demonstrating progressive responsibility with strong technical and operational knowledge
Understanding of the latest technical issues with molecular, microbiology, virology and mycology issues, as well as knowledge of Industrial Hygiene
Skills in budgeting, personal management and employee management, as well as knowledge of research regulatory requirements in an academic research environment
Current knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local regulations
Analytical skills necessary to plan, design and enhance highly-complex hospital-wide systems and programs, resolve problems requiring a comprehensive and state-of-the-art awareness of the technology and literature in a professional, technical or scientific field, or develop financial and operating plans for a large division
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, as well as experience implementing or managing a strong safety culture, across the institution
Strong interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to manage through influence, as well as the functional and technical knowledge to develop and lead a strategic plan
Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, including complex project management, and the ability to work on multiple projects and manage various priorities and timelines. Must be able to adapt quickly to change
