The Assistant Manager of Custodial Services provides oversight to all housekeeping services provided to buildings both on and off campus. The incumbent may oversee all shifts, but primarily manages the evening shift. The incumbent's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, promoting efficient operations and good morale within the department; fostering a strong customer service attitude among the staff; assisting in implementation of new programs; developing and conducting training of supervisors and union custodians to meet the goals of the department; conducting quality assurance inspections, monitoring and analyzing data from inspections, and addressing weaknesses in departmental performance to realize improvements; holding custodians and supervisors accountable for performance, and enforcing university and departmental policies; administering the university's progressive discipline system as required. Communicates with faculty, building managers, support staff, department heads, and students to deliver custodial services and support for special events; fill in for the Custodial Operations Manager when necessary.
Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business Management or another related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Must have a valid Driver's License.
Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
3-5 years of prior housekeeping management experience, preferably in an institutional, college or university, hospitality or healthcare setting
Experience working with a diverse workforce
Experience in use of PC's, Microsoft Office, and an ability to learn other software programs
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, faculty, and staff.
