Job Summary The semiconductor equipment technician installs, maintains, repairs, and operates semiconductor fabrication and characterization equipment in RIT's Semiconductor Nanofabrication Laboratory - a cleanroom facility that is used by researchers, instructors, students, and industry partners. Reporting to the lab's operation manager, the equipment technician supports cutting-edge research and education in a team-oriented culture that encourages the sharing of ideas and strives for continuous improvement. The semiconductor equipment technician is a highly skilled individual who is comfortable with attending to multiple priorities in a user-friendly environment. In addition to planned installation projects and routine maintenance, they will be called upon to troubleshoot and address unique equipment issues in a timely fashion to keep operations running smoothly and safely.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and external customers. This includes training new users, providing operational assistance, troubleshooting problems, and communicating solutions in a timely fashion.
Ensure that semiconductor processing equipment is well-maintained and calibrated.
Perform or arrange for preventative maintenance, maintain equipment logbooks, create and update user manuals and safety procedures.
Procure, install, and decommission semiconductor processing equipment and subsystems. Research procurement options for equipment and components. Plan, schedule, and coordinate equipment installations with tradespeople and equipment manufacturers. Assist with installation as needed.
Design, fabricate, install, and maintain high purity compressed gas systems, vacuum systems, and subassemblies. Use CAD and CNC tools for the design and fabricate upgrades to existing equipment.
Insure compliance with all federal, state and local environmental, health and safety standards and practices, including chemical, electrical, radiation, laser, compressed gas, personal hazard (e.g. lockout tag-out), right-to-know and hazardous waste. Attend annual certification classes. Demonstrate proper cleanroom protocol and best practices while performing job duties.
Required Qualifications:
Five years minimum experience in semiconductor processing equipment maintenance
Experience working with semiconductor processing tools
Strong analytical skills; ability to interpret schematic drawings
Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adjust to changing priorities
Highly organized, ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Ability to be SCBA certified
Preferred Qualifications:
CAD software programs
Instrument control programming: Labview, PLC ladder logic, visual basic
Department/College Description Built in 1985 to support the first ABET accredited undergraduate program in Microelectronic Engineering, the Semiconductor and Microsystems Fabrication Laboratory offers processing resources and technical expertise in the design and development of microsystems to industrial and academic customers. In addition to being a fabrication resource providing process services, the SMFL offers various levels of facility use for research and development activity. Customers have the option of using the 10,000 sq ft of Class 1000, 100 and 10 cleanroom space for its process resources only, or interacting with SMFL staff and/or RIT faculty and students.
