The Mathematics Department at the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) is searching for one Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Mathematics of Machine Learning with applications to health and environmental sciences to strengthen the university?s standing as a global leader in research focused on Precision Health and the Environment; this position is among those and will begin August 1, 2025. Recruitment into the Precision Health and the Environment Cluster Initiative creates opportunities to build bold agendas that advance big ideas. The successful candidate will join a team of approximately 35 established and successful faculty with shared and complementary research interests in artificial intelligence (AI), health informatics, health information and communication, epidemiology, environmental engineering, systems modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning with a strong desire to grow the scholarly and educational impact of their work. For early career faculty, the cluster also offers a unique framework for professional development and mentorship within a rich transdisciplinary environment. Minimum Qualifications
· A PhD or equivalent degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics is required at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
· Contributions in the Mathematics of Machine Learning for applications to health and environmental sciences.
· Demonstrated research publication record.
· Potential for obtaining funding for the research programs, appropriate for the field of study. Potential for participation as a PI/co-PI/Senior Personnel in interdisciplinary teams supported by an external source.
· Effective, high-quality teaching skills, and ability to effectively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdocs.
