Job Summary
This position supports day-to-day maintenance and customer service of the Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS) including Scalehouse and Container Station operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with front-end customer service areas at the HWMS, including Container Station, Scalehouse, waste receptacle distribution, and overall maintenance of these areas and the Site.
Ensure the disposal of solid waste and recyclable material, from Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Municipal customers and direct to the appropriate on site destination.
Inspect customer’s loads for acceptable and unacceptable materials.
Maintain Scalehouse customer database for financial, budget, environmental and statistical reporting purposes.
Accountable for the collection of customer revenues; ensuring the integrity of data and accuracy of financial transactions.
Provide customer service expertise, respond to customer escalations, explain site rules/regulations and Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks legislation, enforce Waste Management By-law.
Performs waste management site maintenance functions, such as collecting litter, weed trimming, painting, sweeping, use of handheld power tools for projects and snow removal.
Oversee the health and safety of customers and contractors by ensuring compliance with site policies, procedures, by-law and the Occupational Health and Safety Act along with applicable regulations.
Operates light equipment, pick-up truck with salter and plow in winter, and all-terrain vehicles
Responsible for ongoing training, guidance, and support for temporary staff and students.
Performs rotating standby functions at both the HWMS and closed landfills in Halton.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
Secondary school diploma or college diploma with a focus in the environmental field or related field with experience in landfill systems, financial accounting, customer service and contract supervision.
Excellent customer service skills, teamwork, communication, and training skills.
Computer skills and comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, financial software, and Point of Sale systems.
Working/ Employment Conditions
Working Conditions
Ability to safely operate small to medium-sized equipment including a forklift, snow plow, line trimmers, etc.
Work in inclement weather conditions and have the ability to perform activities involving lifting in excess of 20 kg.
Perform standby on a rotational basis to respond to after-hour emergency calls.
Must be available for work on weekends.
Employment Conditions
Possess and maintain a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license in order to drive a Regional vehicle.
A current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check.
