Overview
Princeton University Environmental Health and Safety seeks a collaborative, skilled, highly motivated individual to fill the role of a Senior Campus Safety Specialist. The successful candidate will assist members of the EHS management team with aspects of a wide range of occupational health and safety programs.
The Princeton University Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) provides leadership, technical support, information and training, consultation, and periodic audits of environmental, health and safety practices and regulatory compliance. EHS employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of 20 professional and support staff working to address health and safety issues in several broad areas including: workplace safety, occupational health, laboratory safety, emergency management, environmental programs, and general health and safety for the campus community.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing thorough knowledge of all applicable standards, codes and regulations; providing timely dissemination of pertinent information to all segments of the University; developing and presenting training with minimal direction from senior EHS staff; developing and maintaining web-based materials in support of assigned programs, fielding technical questions, and providing health and safety consultation as needed.
Responsibilities
In collaboration with Campus Safety management, assists with administrative aspects of assigned programs, such as confined space entry, electrical safety, construction safety, fall protection, hand and portable power tool safety, telecommunications safety, and other aspects of campus/workplace safety. Acts as the primary safety liaison for certain campus partner departments, including answering all initial inquiries and serving on departmental safety committees Conducts health and safety surveys related to assigned departments, including developing and documenting recommendations for corrective action. Through use of institutional health & safety compliance software, identifies and transmits findings and recommendations as well as completion tracking of identified remedial action. Provides a high level of customer service to the entire campus community. Conducts injury and incident investigations as assigned by the EHS senior staff and issues timely reports with corrective actions Responds to incidents occurring on campus, including after hours and weekends. Provides assistance to campus workers and to emergency responders during the course of ongoing incidents and/or immediately following. Required to be on-call for 7 days at a time on a rotating basis (3-4 times per year). Provide support for industrial hygiene and environmental health programs as needed
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
B.S. in occupational safety, public health, engineering or closely related field required (Advanced Degree preferred) 2-4 yearsâ™ work experience providing safety services in a university, construction, or workplace setting Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to clearly and effectively communicate to a diverse community of clients Ability to master computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite Able to effectively prepare and present information and training to adult learners Ability to work in a team environment and follow work rules and procedures Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, wear personal protective equipment including respiratory protection, work in hot or cold environments, stand for extended periods of time, enter confined spaces, and work on elevated surfaces. Valid driver's license Good organizational and time management skills and ability to balance multiple, simultaneous assignments
Additional Qualifications:
Experience in creating and maintaining electronic media; e.g., web pages (Drupal), online training (Captivate, Storyline) Have or have the ability to obtain Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) qualifications.
