Denver Water is currently hiring a Nurse, Nurse Sr., or Nurse Practitioner to join our amazing Health Services team! This unique opportunity offers a Monday – Friday (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) set schedule with the option to adjust to four ten-hour days. No shift work or overnights!
The position is expected to last three – four months only.
Position Summary
Under general supervision, provide clinical nursing care to injured/ill employees. Promote health and wellness in all employees through health counseling and education. At the Nurse Practitioner level, this role will be responsible for providing care under no/minimal supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees. – Nurse Sr. only
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure triage and care of ill/injured employees, using professional skills to determine treatment or referral. Counsel employees on health and wellness.
- Perform employee wellness examinations, pre-placement physicals, and biometric screenings.
- Maintain medical surveillance programs to include mask fit testing program and various health clinics.
- Maintain record keeping system that ensures confidentiality, accuracy, and medical-legal compliance.
- Remain technically current in the occupational health field and secures necessary or required nursing certifications and other certifications as required.
- Communicate with providers, and provide treatment as prescribed by doctors.
- Promote wellness through health education.
- Perform related work as required.
In addition to the above, the Nurse Sr. will be responsible for the following:
- Provide clinical and acute care including assessment, treatment, management, and documentation of occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries within scope of nursing license.
- Maintain record keeping system that ensures confidentiality, accuracy, and medical-legal compliance.
- Perform employee wellness examinations, pre-placement physicals, and annual health exams.
- Perform drug and alcohol screening. Train new employees in urine drug screen collection process.
- Perform Worker's Compensation reporting and record keeping. Remain technically current in the field of occupational health nursing and secures necessary or required certifications.
- Serve as resource to nonmedical supervisory personnel when medical issues arise.
At the Nurse Practitioner level, the following duties and responsibilities will be required along with those listed above:
- Provide care including assessment, first aid treatment, management, and documentation of occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries within scope of nursing license.
- Prescribe medications as needed.
- Suture wounds as needed.
- Perform medical exams for CDL drivers and medical card holders under Denver Water policies and procedures per FMCSA guidelines. Manage the CDL program and compliance of all CDL/ Med card holders.
- Promote wellness through health education and wellness coaching.
- Perform employee wellness examinations, pre-placement physicals, drug and alcohol testing, and biometric screenings.
- Maintain medical surveillance programs to include Respiratory Protection program and various health clinics.
- Assist with Immunizations and AED program.
- Communicate, problem solve and coordinate care in conjunction with state guidelines and physician at Occupational Health Clinic.
- On-call all as assigned.
- Remain technically current in the nursing field and secure necessary or required occupational health certifications.
- Meets with Medical Director or designee to discuss patient care when needed.

Hiring Range: $26.32 - $30.96 hourly - Nurse
Hiring Range: $28.70 - $33.77 hourly – Nurse Sr.
Hiring Range: $37.37 - $43.97 hourly – Nurse Practitioner
About Denver Water
Temporary positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay (if the employee worked for more than 20 days before the holiday) and Accrued Paid Sick Leave.
Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing with Nurse Practitioners Certification. – Nurse Practitioner only
- Minimum 1 year of related experience. – Nurse only
- Minimum 3 years of related experience. – Nurse Sr. only
- Minimum 5 year of related experience or 3 years occupational health experience. – Nurse Practitioner only
- Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.
Licenses, Registration, and Certification
- Must hold and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado.
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse preferred.
- Certified to perform drug and alcohol testing within 6 months of hire.
- CPR, AED and first aid certification required.
- Must complete required HIPAA training within the first 6 months of hire.
- Must pass Certified Occupational Health Nurse Exam within one year of hire. – Nurse Sr. only
- Must hold and maintain a current Nurse Practitioners Certification license. – Nurse Practitioner only
- Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license required within 6 months of hire. – Nurse Practitioner only
- Certified Medical Examiner (CME) required within 6 months of hire. – Nurse Practitioner only
