About the role
The Director, Growth and Innovation will be responsible for the overall leadership, management and direction of the Town’s response to the Honda EV expansion in Alliston and related economic Investments, as well as reviewing current practices and processes related to growth and development and developing and implementing a modernization program for the Town’s growth and development functions.
How you will contribute to New Tecumseth
Participating in the development of corporate strategies, policies, and directions through deliberations with Senior Management.
Managing relationships with investment partners including Honda, provincial and federal governments.
Ensuring coordination of all internal functions related to the Honda investment, including Planning, Development Engineering, Finance, Capital Delivery, traffic operations, building review and inspections, and acting as key contact for all Honda-related activity.
Proposing new strategies and long-term initiatives, future requirements and administrative/operational changes for the branches and business units.
Leading the process of long-term operational and capital budgets and forecasting for the department and Town.
Establishing department Key Performance Indicators, process for monitoring and reporting mechanisms for communicating KPIs.
Implementing administrative controls including reporting mechanisms; regularly reviewing the effectiveness and efficiency of the department’s operations and taking initiative in directing appropriate adjustments or remedial action towards achieving department goals and objectives.
Leading and directing the department’s management staff, developing their management skills, and consistently coaching for effective performance. Initiating recruitment and performance management of direct reports and meeting regularly with them for operational updates and performance monitoring.
What you bring to the team
University degree in planning, engineering, or related field.
7 - 10 years of experience in a municipal engineering or planning position with progressively increasing responsibilities including 5 years of management/supervisory experience.
Exceptional computer skills and familiarity with project management, engineering, and design software.
Must have thorough knowledge of Municipal Engineering, Planning and Building departments and its associated functions with the ability to interpret policies and regulations of the Municipal Act, Planning Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Highway Traffic Act, Clean Water Act, Conservation Authorities Act, Rail Safety Act and other related legislation and regulations.
Experience effectively managing small and large-scale capital projects as well as complex development agreements and construction in a municipal environment.
Strong management, supervisory, and organizational skills and ability to manage a large multi-disciplinary team of technical and professional staff. Must be capable of setting priorities per the demands of the position ensuring the requirements of Council as well as the needs of the department and organization are considered.
