Job Summary: | Join a dynamic team at UW-Madison, providing excellent patient care in support of a highly respected educational and research institution. As an Occupational Medicine Health Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of our community through various responsibilities, including:
- Performing occupational health surveillance testing such as pulmonary function testing, respirator fit testing, vision screening, TSTs, vaccinations, EKGs, and other relevant tests, along with patient education. - Taking and recording patients' medical histories and vital signs. - Providing accurate and detailed information regarding test preparations, patient arrival times, and other necessary directions. - Scheduling patient appointments and managing cancellations, reschedules, and additions to schedules. - Offering clinical and clerical support to the Occupational Medicine unit both in the clinic and at outreach events. - Maintaining inventory of supplies and forms essential for screening equipment. - Conducting calibration and calibration checks for all screening equipment.
This role falls under UW-Madison's Division of Facilities Planning & Management, Department of Environment, Health & Safety and reports to the Occupational Medicine Clinic Operations Manager. Responsibilities: | Collects vital signs, patient history, and specimens; and performs basic laboratory tests and administers injections and medications under supervising clinician direction to ensure the proper care of patients. Prepares examination rooms and equipment and performs administrative duties. Works collaboratively with other medical staff. - 35% Performs routine vital signs, basic tests, assists with minor procedures, and administers medications as directed by a supervising clinician
- 5% Collects, prepares, and delivers specimens for laboratory analysis
- 30% Prepares and cleans examination rooms, instruments, and equipment for specific procedures
- 5% Escorts patients to various hospital locations and delivers, orders, and inventories general clinic supplies
- 10% Performs administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, assisting patients with billing, and coding information and answering basic medical questions
- 5% Under the direction of the on-site healthcare provider, performs Occupational Health and
Safety-related screening tests and procedures such as: respirator fit testing, pulmonary function tests, Snellen eye exams, and other as assigned and allowed - 5% Provides clinical and administrative support to the UW Occupational Health unit in the clinic and at outreach events. As appropriate, conveys screening results to employees
- 5% Maintains inventory of supplies and forms essential to screening equipment and conducts

Education: | Preferred Associate's Degree Preferred Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or related field |
Qualifications: | Required: - Ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues to foster a supportive environment - Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare team members, including the ability to adjust communication style to meet the needs of patients
Preferred: - One year of healthcare-related experience |

Salary: | Minimum $22.00 HOURLY Depending on Qualifications The starting rate for the position is $22 per hour but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
