The Director of the EdD Program is a collaborative and visionary leader responsible for providing the strategic vision, direction, and leadership of the program. TheDirectorplays a vital role in elevating the reputation of the EdD program, attracting and supporting top students and faculty, and promoting innovation in teaching, learning, and research.
This is a tenure-track position at the Associate or Full Professor rank. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional program leadership, a commitment to teaching excellence, and evidence of a productive scholarly research agenda. The Director of the EdD program will be responsible for: (a) leading and coordinating the academic administration of the program; (b) collaborating with the department chair and faculty across departments and research centers to foster a vibrant learning community through a high quality curriculum; (c) recruiting and retaining excellent students, (d) maintaining the academic and instructional quality of the EdD program, and (e) fulfilling expected faculty duties in scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate with rank. Successful candidates may also contribute to instructional efforts in other School of Education programs, ensuring academic quality through evidence-based and innovative teaching practices, as well as engaging in collaborative and interdisciplinary research across the School and University.
The vision of the Johns Hopkins EdD program is to prepare education-practitioners across the country and around the world to think critically about problems within their education environment and develop the insights and capacity to lead positive, sustained change. The asynchronous online program curriculum prepares education practitioners to think critically and systemically about problems within their professional settings and develop deep understanding and insights to lead positive, sustained change within those settings. The program has newly designed areas of focus on topics ranging from learning design and technology to education entrepreneurship. The program enrolls approximately 75 new students each year from a range of geographic locations, academic and professional backgrounds and career interests. Graduates from our EdD program work in diverse areas, including executive roles in educational organizations and start-ups, leadership in K-12 school districts and systems, or as consultants in specialized education and non-education fields. The EdD program is supported by a full-time staff member and a department coordinator. Academic Affairs provides support for recruitment, assessment, student services, advising, and instructional design.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the EdD Program Director include but are not limited to:
Provide visionary leadership for the graduate program, aligning with the department and institution's mission and goals.
Manage the recruitment, hiring, and continuous support of adjunct faculty to meet program needs, and provide oversight on teaching quality and performance matters.
Review and improve the approach to continuous improvement of the program, curriculum, and assessment plan.
Convene regular faculty meetings to facilitate community building, share information, review data, and ensure representation in decision-making.
Attend graduation and summer residency, and ensure program representation at other important events.
Collaborate with Academic Affairs to develop and update the program handbook and school catalog copy related to curriculum and offer feedback or updated information by university deadlines.
Collaborate with Enrollment Management Services for student recruitment efforts to attract a diverse and high-caliber pool of graduate students.
Collaborate with faculty and students to offer an annual program residency.
Maintain fiscal responsibility and awareness in collaboration with department chairs to ensure effective allocation of resources.
Conduct original research to assemble a record of scholarly publications in line with a tenured appointment at a major research university.
Develop independent, externally-funded research.
Mentor graduate students and supervise doctoral dissertations.

Qualifications
A doctorate from an accredited university related to education that meets the requirements for appointment as associate or full professor.
Contributes academic expertise within the EdD program and across academic programs within the SOE.
Significant leadership and administrative experience in a research university.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, build relationships with a wide variety of partners and constituents, and recruit potential students.
Proven experience working collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Experience with best practices in hybrid and online teaching.
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence through teaching, scholarship and service.
Evidence of effective advising and mentoring of applied doctoral students.
Physical requirements for the job:
Primarily sedentary work with occasional standing, walking, or lifting of light objects.
Frequent use of office equipment such as computers and keyboards.
Clear communication, both spoken and written, is essential for effective collaboration within the office and virtual environments.
Supervisory responsibility:
The EdD Director reports to the ASE Department Chair. The EdD Director is responsible for the supervision of program administrative staff.

The expected base pay salary range for this position is $123,002 - $214,580.
The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the School of Education's faculty compensation program or pay from participation in the School of Education's incentive compensation programs.
