Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Under minimum supervision lays out, constructs or installs, repairs, and maintains water and gas distribution systems, related facilities and auxiliary equipment and equipment utilizing water, gas and heat distribution services.
• The hours of operation/shift for this position are Mon-Friday 8am to 4:30pm.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• 6-yrs total experience composed of 4-yrs apprenticeship plus 2-yrs experience, or
• 6-8 yrs. total experience composed of formal trade school plus minimum 2-yrs experience, or
• 8-yrs experience (no formal training).
• Must have a valid NYS Driver's license.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of NFPA 85 - Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code.
• Knowledge of boiler system corrosion control methods.
• Experience with fuel oil handling and spill control methods.

Environmental, Health, and Safety Requirements:
* Ability to do heavy lifting > 30 lbs.
* Ability to do moderate lifting < 30 lbs.
* Ability to work in confined spaces.
* Ability to climb fixed and portable ladders.
* Work outdoors/cold environments.
* Work in warm environments.
* Moving machinery.
* Use of powered and air operate hand-tools.
* Use of respirator and other related safety equipment.
* Physical coordination dexterity and balance.
* Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.

The Lab's placement policy is to select the best qualified candidate for an available position. With respect to Bargaining Unit positions, candidates are considered in the following order: (1) present benefits-eligible employees within the department/division and/or appropriate bargaining unit, with preference for those within the immediate work group; (2) present benefits-eligible employees within the Laboratory; and (3) outside applicants. The salary per hour for this position is $41.07.
