Counseling Services Generalist (BEH HEALTH COUNSELOR 4 HX)

Job Summary

Under the direction of a Counseling Services (CS) Supervisor at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), this position serves as a Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and has recognized expertise in specific areas; performs professional patient/client care (individual, group, crisis intervention, and case management) assigned by quarterly clinic schedule. This work requires analysis of unique and complex issues. Contributes expertise to campus-wide programs on education, multicultural concerns. and prevention, formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. Functions with a high degree of autonomy, and provides supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened on a biweekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

Current CPR certification or obtain within 90 days.

Masters clinical/counseling degree and licensure (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) required. Masters therapist applicants are governed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and are required to possess a valid California license. Masters therapist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 30 days of job offer.

Experience in at least 1 of the following: 1) Experience providing culturally informed services to Asian American and Pacific Islander clients, 2) Experience providing culturally informed services to Native American clients, 3) Experience treating neurodivergent clients, 4) Experience working with clients who have concerns with Alcohol and Other Drugs.

Experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds.

Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling.

Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.

Experience establishing professional work relationships

Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and treatment interventions.

Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with historically underserved or marginalized client populations (e.g. Native American, LGBTQIA, African Diaspora, Chicanx/Latinx, etc.)

Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation.

Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations.

Department Overview

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. UC Davis is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Accreditation for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association). SHCS Counseling Services are staffed by an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to providing student-centered mental health services, advocacy, outreach, and consultation to promote psychological well-being and academic success. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

Work in multiple locations and move from building to building.

Daily move throughout a 3-story building.

Rarely / occasionally work evenings and some weekends.

Position subject to credentialing process at Student Health and Counseling Services.

Position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist of infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
