Bryn Mawr College has an opening for a Biology Lab Coordinator.
THE POSITION
The Department of Biology seeks a full-time, 12-month Biology Lab Coordinator (staff) to provide support for instruction in the Biology Department’s teaching laboratories.
The primary areas of responsibility include assisting faculty with laboratory setup and clean-up; preparing common reagents (e.g. buffers, solutions, etc.) for teaching labs; preparing media (e.g. bacterial media, insect food, plant media, etc.) to support courses and faculty-supervised student research; assisting faculty with animal and plant care; ordering and maintaining the inventory of teaching lab supplies; and ensuring cleanliness of laboratory glassware and teaching laboratory spaces.
The Biology Lab Coordinator will assist with the training and supervision of undergraduate teaching assistants. The Biology Lab Coordinator does not provide direct instruction of the curriculum, but trains students on the use of laboratory equipment in instructional settings, and supervises undergraduate teaching assistants in their prep, set-up and clean-up work.
The Biology Lab Coordinator will be responsible for the proper handling and disposal of waste (e.g. biohazardous waste, chemicals, glass, sharps, etc.) in coordination with the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.

Bachelor’s degree in the sciences with 1-5 years of relevant experience
Other related and comparable education and experience will be considered.
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Strong communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to multi-task, seek clarifications, and communicate about competing deadlines or priorities.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to train and supervise students.
Ability to support both the department curriculum and research programs of the faculty.
General aptitude for and expertise with scientific equipment.
Willingness and eagerness to learn and continue to seek training, as appropriate.
Must be able to perform duties in labs and storage spaces involving reaching; lifting; packing/unpacking; assembling; loading/unloading lab supplies from benches, tables, and carts; cleaning equipment; cleaning glassware in sinks; storing equipment and supplies in cupboards and on shelves and lab benches.
Must be able to carry 30 pounds over short distances.
Must have the ability to move throughout and across all areas of campus.
Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory environment preferred.
Demonstrated experience making laboratory solutions and media preferred.
Demonstrated experience working with undergraduate students preferred.
