Departmental Overview
The Department of Chemistry houses and supports UC Berkeley's chemistry curriculum and research.
Position Summary
The Chemistry Instructional Lab Night Shift Supervisor is a key member of a team of six stockroom supervisors responsible for supporting evening instructional lab operations. This role oversees evening laboratory sessions that serve over 300 students enrolled in General and Organic Chemistry courses and contributes to other instructional stockroom activities as needed. This position's focus is in supporting the common good courses (General and Organic Chemistry series). The incumbent works closely with fellow stockroom managers and coordinates with casual student Lab Assistants to ensure students have access to the necessary materials and equipment, provides technical support during lab sessions, monitor safety, ensures the labs will run smoothly through quality control measures and other potential experiment modifications, and assists in maintaining and updating the chemical inventory. This position reports directly to the Director of Instruction.

Responsibilities
Oversee stockroom operations during evening laboratory periods
Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety procedures and regulations
Maintain and update chemical inventory
Provide routine instrument maintenance
Contribute to other stockroom activities, such as material preparation and testing, as needed
Verifies satisfactory operating conditions of the laboratory and ISF instrument and equipment as needed
Provides routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory rooms and the restocking and distribution of chemicals, supplies, and equipment
Train support staff on instrumentation use, troubleshooting, and maintenance as needed
Provide scientific and technical assistance to students and GSIs (Teaching Assistants)
Supervise instructional laboratory work when instructors are not present
Additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Advanced chemical technical knowledge, for overseeing undergraduate chemistry labs
Familiarity with EH&S regulations, chemical management, and waste disposal regulations and procedures
Skills in judgment and independent thinking
Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings
Problem-solving and organizational skills
Multicultural competencies, knowledge, and experience working and interacting with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations
BS or equivalent in chemistry or related discipline, with advanced studies and/or equivalent experience/training.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted annual salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $65,155.55 - $76,360.66, Step 1 - 9.
This is an exempt, monthly-paid position.
This is a full-time, Career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
