Description
The Department of Neurobiology is seeking a highly skilled Staff Researcher to support and advance cutting-edge non-human primate (NHP) research within a dynamic laboratory environment. This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced research setting and is passionate about driving operational excellence in scientific discovery.
In this role, you will oversee NHP research operations and animal care while ensuring the highest standards of compliance and scientific integrity. You will analyze, coordinate, and implement operational solutions that enhance laboratory efficiency and research outcomes. Acting as a key liaison, you will collaborate with regulatory and operational partners including ARC, EHS, DEA, and DLAM to ensure seamless compliance and support of research activities.
You will lead and manage cross-functional operational projects spanning multiple teams, develop and deliver clear communication plans and presentations for diverse audiences, and produce high-quality assessments and ongoing project status reporting. A core part of this role includes optimizing workflows, strengthening cross-departmental collaboration, and improving operational systems. You will also play a critical role in training and onboarding team members on new processes and platforms

Qualifications
Required:
Ability to handle animals
Ability to follow UCLA regulation on hazardous waste disposal procedures
Familiarity with regulations for proper animal care, anesthesia and euthanasia
Ability to train students and new personnel in animal handling and research techniques
Ability to program in C, C++ and/or Matlab
Ability to train animals
Skilled at single unit recording in the awake behaving animal
Knowledge in training programs used in different settings of laboratory animal medicine.
Certification as Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG)
Ability to work independently on a self-directed basis prioritizing and organizing fluctuating work load.
Execute project management best practices by developing project scope of work, objectives, budget, and evaluation measuring and ensuring outcome deliverables are achieved and within budget.
Knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy.
Knowledge of and ability to accurately follow all SOPs associated with a GLP study, including required by study protocol and GLP documentation procedures.
Minimum of bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 3-5 years of NHP research and care experience
Knowledge of regulations governing Animal Research: AWA, The Guide 8th Ed , and OLAW
Demonstrated project management skills with proven avility to deliver agreed upon objectives within expected timeframe.
Working Knowledge of leave practices and change management
Preferred:
Master’s degree strongly preferred,
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred.
